The government has taken many of them off the streets. They've been imprisoned. That's much easier than giving these people the treatment they need. The problem is when they are released the cycle starts all over. Just imagine what we could do to rehabilitate these people with the money being wasted in Iraq. History will judge the greatness of America by how it treated its weakest citizens. |

If they want help I think that is a great idea. |

No. It is not the job or function of the government to prevent us from hurting ourselves, nor to provide for us our every basic need. There is a place for charity in our society, but it should come from charitable agencies or churches, not the government. |

Deregulation (by the state & federal governments) released a lot of these people onto the street to begin with. And yes, the government should be in the "serving its people " business. |

I think the government should be involve in this. It is a problem that should be addressed along, with a lot of other very serious problem we have. Our traditionals religions seem to not be tuned into reality enough, to really motivate and inspire people, to make a difference in this world morally, when it comes to real issues in the real world. Sacrifice, in order to overcome problem does have some discomfort, including having to give up on some of our over indulging and excessive materialism, in order to invest time, money, and effort, to deal effectively with our problems in this world. |
