I think it would be a lot better for the person in the long run |

The long term effects of rehab, far out way the cost differance between jail, and rehab. If a person stays clean they probably wont go back to jail. If they stay on drugs they are in, and out of jail. The socio-economic impact of an addict is far greater than the expense of jailing a person. |

Short-term, no. Drub rehab is very expensive and depending on the situation could take quite a bit of time. Long-tem any length of rehab is cheaper than running an individual through the legal system and housing for drug related crimes. Ultimately, it shouldn’t be a question of cost but value. How much does a society value human life. |

Jail is a business- the federal goverment pays $90-150K per prisoner to a privately owned prison and a similar amount for housing prisoner in a goverment owned prison. drug rehabs are cheaper but drug addicts often are in and out of rehab which is also expensive. but jailing is more expensive |

Proven by every study out there rehab is cheaper by far! Not only is the cost of one rehab cheaper the long-term costs are far cheaper. When you think of how many people are in prison right now for crimes related to their addiction you see the base. When they get out they are going to offend again because they are still addicts and have had nothing to curb that, no jail doesn't kill it drugs are previlent in jails and prisons too, so they tend to re-offend. Rehab gives them the tools to get it under control and deal with it. Yes it may take more than one rehab to work but it will eventually work! |

Well, if the USA would allowe the thereputic use of Ibogane in treating Chemical Dependancies, then the cost of rehab would be cheaper than a week of Prison, though it may require more than one session... I asked a question about Ibogane, there's a link to a website in the question you should read... answers.yahoo.com/ question/ index;_ylt= AuwI91iO.Ta5BWoyCzncra_sy6IX?qid= 1006022410912 |
