Question: Culturally costly; obesity or chemical dependency?

Good old Barry Hussein is hooking a brotha up with universal health care. Because of this, some Americans will finally get treatment for their own self- inflicted conditions. Which would you consider to be worse? Let's just say that your significant other will permanently be either an alcoholic or drug addict, or they will be morbidly obese. Which of those would you not be able to tolerate? BQ - Which do you think is going to cost American taxpayers more in the long run; paying for obesity- related 'illnesses', or for drug abuse education?

An alcoholic because a lot of people get mean and abusive when they drink. you don't get mean and abusive when you're stuffing your face with food. bq: probably obesity related illness.

I think any substance abuse would be worse. it would alter their personality, and eat away at our money. alcoholic would wine me, fatboy would dine me. & i'd rather be dined then wined anyday. bq - obesity.

Ewwww I have a major aversion to morbidly obese, so I'm going to have to go for the addict... although really I'd prefer to be a spinster if it came down to it. I think fat people cost more money in their health care because they live but have tons of problems obviously, from high blood pressure to clogged up arteries leading to heart disease and end up requiring a new heart or liver sometimes when it gets pickled from eating too much crap. Also, diabetes, which costs a ton of money to monitor and maintain healthy blood sugar levels, perhaps even have to hire a caregiver to give shots and definitely have to buy very expensive special diet foods. I ought to know, I do some caregiving and know all about diabetes maintenance and the shots, it ain't cheap and a hassle. Fat people are just a hassle in general, hate to say it. At least with drug or drink addicts, if they refuse to help themselves, then pretty much they just go die at a young age. The govt does not offer much assistance with substance abuse programs, most of them are private charities or top dollar expensive treatment centers. The govts solution is often lock em up in jail, pay them lots of fines... so they loose $ from jailing em but in turn make obscene amounts charging court ordered fines and the dui schools make a king's ransom as well. And also I suspect when they confiscate the drugs that perhaps it doesn't all get burned, hmmmmm
