FIRST...you MUST .. REPENT! This means you make up your own mind that you will quit the sinful thing you are doing. Without true REPENTANCE, you will get nowhere. People wish for God to just 'take' away the wish or desire for their lusts, without first obeying His Commands, to REPENT. Repent means you quit. You are so sorry for your wrong doings, that you tell God you will not do it anymore and mean it. When you reach this place, then go get someone you can trust to baptize you in the Name of Jesus Christ FOR THE REMISSION of your sins, according to God's word, Acts 2. Now this is the God-given method of getting RID of all sins. If a person tries to get it done some other way, they are in rebellion against God to start with, and still expecting God to do a miracle for them. Now, God WILL take away the addiction when you do it His way. He will give you total deliverance. I know too many people who received total deliverance when they do it God's way. To all who use such things as this to try and slander God or say he IS NOT, you only doom your own souls. He always will be and you will not.

It's supposed to be 50/ 50 not 90/ 10. Some people need to make an effort.

Because they think by praying to god, god will somehow make the addiction go away. It won't work that way.

It proves that either A)there is no god because it is not helping them B)Their god hates them because it is not helping them through a tough time in their life C)They arent trying hard enough.

They should keep Faith God is working on them from the inside out and they should completely stop thinking about it or worrying about in because then they take back their dominion on the situation back and God will not interfere with their decision. We are God's servant, He is not ours. He will do it in His time schedule and do it better than anybody or anything on earth could ever even come close to accomplishing.

They should have gone to rehab first. Praying does no good.

Maybe that christian needs to quit doing the twelve ounce curl and take responsibility for their actions. Work for what you want

It takes prayer to help you get through your WILLFUL action of DOING what you need to do to overcome your addiction. The best way to stop an addiction is to replace it with another addiction. Like working out/ reading.

Uhh prayer isn't a magic button that fixes everything. If someone is praying to get over an addiction, but doing nothing to try and stop it, then it means nothing.

Probably they should seek professional medical help.

It means they should realize Skydaddy isn't going to do the tough part for them, and do it themself.

Whenever a prayer doesn't happen, Christians always say "well you did something god didn't like " or something along those lines. But when someone prays and it accidentally happens, they say "Look! Evidence of god! "

Overcoming addiction takes work. Prayer can be part of the process but in my experience it takes an extreme internal house cleaning. *EDIT ~ Upnorthy is WRONG! Struggling with addiction does not have anything to do with how much you love God. It's not a matter of willpower. Oh man that just made me angry! Don't listen to people that say things like that. They have NO IDEA what they are talking about.

I think addicts are always being asked the wrong question. The question they're usually being asked is "why do you consume? ". I think a much more pertinent question is: "What's so bad about the way you see the world in your biologically normal state? What are you running away from? ".

2 Corinthians 12:7 - 10 To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. " Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

If it's a drug addiction, then you should consider rehab. Just because you pray doesn't mean whatever god you believe in is going to wake up one day and make it so that you won't need whatever substance it is that you need. Addictions take away your will power and make it so that you need to get yourself help from other people who specliaze in helping people like you...not from god. Sorry. Not trying to tear your faith apart, but addictions are serious and they need to be handled that way.

A Christian knows that they are never alone. Even when they are by them self, God is with them. Has this person asked for divine help and intervention? God will send an angel, or mentor, to support that person in need. This person can rely on a support team or member to help them through this at church. church is a community with brothers and sisters who serve one another. No good Christian in their right mind would refuse, they may offer a recommendation of an expert...someone who has already overcome an addiction. Ask your pastor, priest or minister for a contact. Bless you

Then either you need to get closer to God by devoting your time, energy, will, etc. to him, or God hasn't finished taking you through the process. God usually doesn't just zap people with the trait they've asked for, be it patience, kindness, freedom from addiction, etc. His help is usually more like therapeutic trials and temptations that train you in what you need to learn along with loving support. Keep trying and keep praying. Add: FYI The most successful rehabs use the 12 step program based on the process encountered by a particular alcoholic who recovered when he found God. There was an extensive article on it in the current edition of The Week.

God has priorities to do when/ after we come to Jesus. God starts at the basics with all of us and then we grow in Christ as we walk with God. Know this: God will take care of this, but he is working on something more important right now. Here is a scripture of hope for all of us: Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”- bless you.
